Mango
Mangoes are believed to have originated in India and have been cultivated in Southeast Asia since ancient times. In Japan, due to unsuitable climatic conditions, mangoes are mainly grown in greenhouses and consumed primarily fresh. For imported mangoes, strict regulations are in place to prevent the introduction of serious pests such as fruit flies. Only specific varieties from countries that meet rigorous inspection and treatment requirements are permitted for import. As safety approvals progressed, imports were successively liberalized, beginning with Thailand in 1987, followed by Australia in 1994, Brazil in 2004, and India in 2006.
More recently, imports from Vietnam were approved in 2015, further expanding sourcing diversity.
At Funasho Shoji, we maintain close partnerships with growing regions and conduct rigorous quality control to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, seasonal mangoes from a wide range of origins.
