Although imports of American cherries were liberalized in 1992, Funasho Shoji began selling them eight years earlier, in 1984. Because imported cherries are more affordable than domestic cherries, import volumes have increased steadily over the years. While there are numerous varieties of American cherries, most of those imported into Japan are characterized by their larger size, deeper color, richer flavor, and satisfyingly firm texture compared with domestic cherries. In particular, cherries harvested in Washington State between June and July are considered the finest among American cherries and are highly popular even within the United States.

Because American cherries require especially careful quality control, we import them immediately after harvest through our proprietary logistics network,
